AN UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTH
The number TWO cause of death in the United States is cancer. A staggering 1,620 people a DAY, die of cancer. There are 10,000 new cases a year among children. ONE in THREE cases in the US is directly linked to poor diet, physical inactivity, weight or chemical exposure. The American Cancer Society says that only 5-10% of cancer cases are due to a gene defect. That means the other 90-95% of cancer cases are preventable.
EXPOSURE IN YOUR HOME
The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health studied 2,983 ingredients listed on products in our home. Of those, 884 had toxic ingredients. Three hundred and fourteen of them cause biological mutations. Three hundred seventy six caused eye and skin irritation. Two hundred eighteen caused reproductive problems. Seven hundred seventy eight were toxic to the human body. While one hundred forty six were already known to cause cancer tumors but were still allowed in the United States, even though they were banned in other countries around the world.
These petroleum derived chemicals are allowed in nearly every type of cleaning supply in the United States. Even organic cleaners have some known carcinogens present that are naturally occurring. The air in the average American home is 5-7 times more polluted that outdoor air quality. Twenty six seconds after exposure, chemicals are found in measurable amounts inside the human body. Toxic chemical labeling is only required if 50% or more of the animals who they were tested on, die.
What are the top offenders? According to The National Health Federation’s list of top “10” killer house hold chemicals, air freshers are number one on the list. Quickly following are personal care products (including toothpaste, shampoo and baby wipes), bleach, dishwasher detergent, furniture polish, mold and mildew cleaners, oven cleaner, antibacterial cleaners and LAUNDRY room products. Your clothes are washed in toxic chemicals, then sit on your body and fumigate those chemical which are then absorbed by your skin EVERYDAY! We DO have control over what enters the walls of our home.
